Emma Stone Talks Career, Jokes She Was a ‘Good-Looking Kid’

Emma Stone covers the July issue of ELLE and reveals some tidbits about her childhood and her now sky-rocketing career in a candid interview.

Though she’s a bona fide movie star — especially thanks to her leading role in ‘The Help’ in August — Stone says she went through those awkward teen years just like everyone else.

“I sucked my thumb until I was 11, so I had this expander in. I was a good-looking kid,” she jokes. “I never felt, like, dorky. I was just like, ‘Yup, these are my braces. I’ve had them forever.'”

Besides ‘The Help,’ Stone has another big-name movie in the works. She’ll play Gwen Stacy in next summer’s ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ alongside Andrew Garfield, but don’t think all these exciting movie roles are going to the 22-year-old actress’ head.

“I mean, I haven’t been around very long. I can’t expect everyone to have seen ‘The House Bunny,'” she says. “Oh God. I am having such waves of internal embarrassment, which now I’m admitting on a tape recorder. This is so one of the things I should keep in my head.”

In the interview, she also reflects on how the different roles she’s been given have led her to where she is today.

“It’s so funny how different life could have been,” she says. “I went to so many auditions. I remember my audition for ‘Heroes.’ I went in right after Hayden Panettiere. Now here we are in this rented house. It feels like it just happened.”
